Janet Barger-Lux joined the ORC in 1986, after having served Creighton University as a clinical laboratory technologist, Allied Health faculty member, and administrator. She had earlier completed an MS in pathology and laboratory medicine (University of Nebraska) and a year-long administrative fellowship (Creighton University Office of the Vice President for Health Sciences). She holds the faculty rank of Senior Research Associate in Medicine.

Under the direction of Dr. Robert P. Heaney, Ms. Barger-Lux has worked on the design, budgeting, management, analysis, publication, and presentation of human-subjects studies, principally involving the nutritional physiology of osteoporosis. This work has led to over 60 full-length publications and more than 100 presentations to scientific, professional, and community audiences. She is a manuscript reviewer for the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

A priority goal of the ORC Director, Dr. Robert R. Recker, is to establish a medical specialty program in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism at Creighton. Ms. Barger-Lux is coordinating the planning and gathering the documentation that should allow approval of the new Program by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education early in 2004.
