Dr. Egan is a senior nephrologist, master clinician, and recognized
expert in the diagnosis and treatment of metabolic bone diseases.
He served the Omaha Veterans Administration Medical Center as Nephrology
Section Chief for more than 30 years. Shortly after his attempted
retirement in 2000, Dr. Egan joined the ORC, where he conducts twice-weekly
bone clinics and frequent (and well-attended) grand rounds.
The Creighton University School of Medicine has recognized Dr.
Egan with every award for which he has been eligible: the Golden
Apple (from the students in 1980), the Distinguished Professor Award
(its first recipient in 1985), the J.F. Sullivan Award for Excellence
and Dedication to Resident Teaching (1986), and the Dedicated Teacher
Award (1987). He received the Creighton University Distinguished
Faculty Award in 1988.
Dr. Egan continues to conduct weekly sessions of the Harrison’s
Club and Medicine Journal Club that he began in the mid-1960s. The
golden anniversary of his appointment to the medical faculty will
occur in 2004.
