Dr. Recker, Director of the Creighton University Osteoporosis Research
Center, is an internationally recognized expert in the field of
metabolic bone disease. His 30-plus year career as physician-scientist
includes laboratory and clinical research, teaching, patient care,
and professional leadership. He holds the ranks of Master, American
College of Physicians, and Fellow, American College of Endocrinology.
He is past governor of the Nebraska Chapter of the American College
of Physicians and past president of the American Society for Bone
and Mineral Research. Dr. Recker serves on the editorial boards
of several medical journals, - including Osteoporosis International,
the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, and the Journal of Clinical
Endocrinology and Metabolism – and is a journal referee for
all of the leading medical and research publications in the field.
He serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the National Osteoporosis
Foundation and chairs its Research Grants Subcommittee. Dr. Recker
assembled and edited a classic text on transilial bone biopsy -
Bone Histomorphometry: Techniques and Interpretation (CRC Press,
Boca Raton, Florida, 1983 – that, 20 years post-publication,
remains an important resource. His list of professional publications
includes more than 200 original papers, chapters, and monographs
that deal with calcium physiology, metabolic bone disease, bone
histomorphometry, prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, adaptation
of bone to loading, and, more recently, the genetics of bone mass.
